IDC: Global Public Cloud Spending to Rise 20% Yearly, Hit $266 Billion in 2021

A new forecast from IDC calls for global public cloud spending to increase at an average 21% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2016-2021 to reach $266 billion by the end of the forecast period. The data came from IDC’s “Worldwide Semiannual Public Cloud Services Spending Guide.”

 

Bluetooth Mesh Introduced to Support IoT

Bluetooth has raised the bar for its short-distance, wireless networking products and services with the introduction of mesh networking. Bluetooth’s new wireless mesh networks can support many-to-many (m:m) device communications and enables end users to construct much larger networks, according to a Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) blog post.

 

ZTE Claims Record 5G Results in Testing, Achieves 19 Gbps

China is staging the second phase of its national 5G tests and ZTE Corp is a participant. The broadband infrastructure vendor announced it had established several new mobile 5G broadband records for speed and performance while completing tests across seven principal scenarios in Huairou in Beijing.

 

TV Apps Are Driving Growth for Internet Connected TVs, With 260 Million Installed by 2020 

Some 260 million devices able to deliver apps to TVs in U.S. Internet households will be connected to the Internet come year-end 2020, according to the latest forecast from NPD Connected Intelligence. Internet-connected smart TVs will account for nearly half the forecast growth (48%), while streaming media players will contribute 31 percent, according to NPD.

 

 Nobles County Broadband Project

Slow or no broadband access puts rural communities at risk as economic development stalls, educational methods are limited, rural healthcare options are limited, and agriculture is negatively affected. Broadband service is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessary utility and Nobles County has now broken ground to bring that service to its residents. Finley Engineering is proud to partner with Nobles County and Lismore Cooperative Telephone Company from the initial feasibility study all the way to designing and now managing the project.  Pope County to Conduct Feasibility Study 

Without access to high-speed broadband services and applications, businesses, jobs and residents leave. Housing values falter. Students lose access to educational opportunities. Healthcare suffers. Agriculture is hindered. For these reasons, Pope County, located in rural west central Minnesota, hired Finley Engineering along with CCG Consulting to conduct a thorough feasibility study which the two organizations along with the County used to further discussions with community members and local carriers who may bring the broadband projects to fruition in the future.
