Missouri Governor Proposes $45M For Rural Broadband

On March 1st, Missouri Governor Eric Greitens announced a rural growth plan that will focus on bringing rural broadband to Missouri. In the Governor's proposal, $45 Million of the unexpected federal funding will be invested specifically for rural broadband.

FCC Reveals Plans for CAF II Auction to Award $2 Billion for Rural Broadband

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has taken the final actions required to launch its Connect America Fund Phase II or CAF II auction, which will provide up to $1.98 billion over the next decade to expand fixed, high-speed Internet service in unserved rural areas.

Nokia, Qualcomm Demonstrate 5G NR Interoperability

Nokia and Qualcomm Technologies took a step toward 5G New Radio by demonstrating 5G NR interoperability between infrastructure and devices.

The testing successfully linked a commercially available Nokia AirScale base station and prototype 5G New Radio devices from Qualcomm. The tests, which were conducted at a Nokia facility in Oulu, Finland, complied with the 3GPP’s NR Release 15 standard, which was confirmed last December.

Demos Shows Important Role Fiber Could Play in Radio Astronomy

Researchers have transmitted a stable frequency more than 300 kilometers over a standard fiber optic telecommunications network, synchronizing a pair of radio telescopes, according to the Optical Society. The telecom fiber radio astronomy demonstration shows the important role that the fiber could play.
