The Next Generation of Wi-Fi is Now Being Studied by the IEEE

IEEE and the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) have formed a study group and topic interest group focused on a possible next-generation Wi-Fi standard.

USDA Rural Economic Development Awards Made

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has finalized four agreements to aid rural communities in their effort to create and implement economic development plans. The USDA rural development awards are part of the Rural Development Innovation Center’s Rural Economic Development Innovation (REDI) initiative.

FCC 5G Fast Plan Encompasses Spectrum, Infrastructure and Regulatory Issues

The move to 5G requires significant upgrades and transitions in a number of areas, including spectrum, infrastructure and regulation. The FCC 5G Facilitate America’s Superiority in 5G Technology (FAST) Plan is meant to address these needs.

Other transitions – from 3G to LTE, for instance – introduced new technology that fit neatly into the existing cellular landscape. They offered, in essence, better versions of what already existed. 5G will be a far deeper change.

Nearly $40 Million in USDA Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants Awarded

The United States Department of Agriculture is funding 128 projects aimed at increasing access to job training, educational and health care services in rural areas. The awards were made through the USDA Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants program. The funding totals $39.6 million
