Connect South Dakota Awards $5M To Its First Grant Recipients

Congratulations to those who received grant funding as part of the Connect South Dakota initiative. Finley Engineering’s Slayton office worked with Vast Broadband, one of the recipients, to submit their grant application. We are pleased to celebrate these awards with all of the recipients as we collectively work to further expand broadband service in rural South Dakota. 

Possible $20B in Federal Funds To Be Auctioned Next Year To Better Rural Broadband

About $20 billion in federal funds may be available as early as next year for electric cooperatives pursuing broadband service in rural America. A new auction, dubbed the Rural Digital Opportunities Fund (RDOF), is expected to offer up to $20.4 billion to build broadband in unserved or underserved census blocks identified by the Federal Communications Commission.

Watch / Benton Ridge Telephone Awarded $52M in CAF II Funding For Fixed Wireless

Finley Engineering would like to congratulate Watch Communications, a subsidiary of Benton Ridge Telephone Company, for receiving $52M from the CAF II funding auctions. The funding will promote expansion to underserved and unserved communities in Watch’s territories of Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

 

KPMG Is Very Bullish on 5G, Suggests a 5G Economic Impact Of $4.3 Trillion Worldwide

The 5G economic impact could be $4.3 trillion worldwide, according to new research from business consultancy KPMG. The reason the value is so great is that there are several important emerging technologies that require networks faster than LTE. Without 5G, the full power of AI, smart machines and the IoT won’t be realized, KPMG argues.

Agricultural Robots Are On The Rise, Leading To An $88 Billion Business

Worldwide agricultural robot shipments will reach 727,000 units and be valued at $87.9 billion by 2025, according to an agricultural robot forecast from Tractica. The category consists of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other robot and automation technology.

Broadband is now seen as equally important, if not more so, to electricity and water for a community’s long-term viability. Communities, regardless of size, are evaluating their technology future and ensuring robust broadband is at the center of that future. It’s a smart move.
