GSA: 5G Device Availability Accelerates

At least 47 5G devices now are available, with 152 more on the way from a total of 76 vendors, according to the GSA's Analyser for Mobile Broadband Data (GAMBoD) database. That number has grown from 20 in June. 5G device availability accelerated during the year as more 5G projects launched worldwide, according to the organization.

Report: 5G Awareness is High - But Confusion Reigns

People generally know about 5G but are confused, according to research about 5G awareness from Strategy Analytics.

The report from the firm’s User Experience Strategies group found that 36% of respondents say that they are aware of 5G, 39% profess to a basic level of knowledge, 18% call themselves familiar and 7% say they are unfamiliar.

Report: Prepare for a Holiday Broadband Bandwidth Spike

Broadband use could reach 330GB per subscriber during the 2019-2020 holiday season, according to OpenVault. That’s up from 2019 third quarter average usage of 275GB per subscriber. The broadband analytics company says that there will be about a 19% increase between the third quarter and the end of the holiday season in January.

Ericsson, Microsoft Aim to Move Connected Cars Forward

Ericsson and Microsoft are partnering on a connected platform designed to free manufacturers to focus on value-added services. The plan is for Ericsson to build its Connected Vehicle Cloud “on top of” the Microsoft Connected Vehicle Platform (MCVP). That platform, in turn, runs on the Microsoft Azure cloud..
