The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) has unveiled the Next G Alliance, which is designed to advance North American Technology leadership for 6G and for further evolution of mobile technology communications, including research and development, manufacturing of devices, standardization of specifications and market readiness.

Founding Next G Alliance members include: AT&T, Bell Canada, Ciena, Ericsson, Facebook, InterDigital, JMA Wireless, Microsoft, Nokia, Qualcomm Technologies Inc., Samsung, TELUS, Telnyx, T-Mobile, UScellular and Verizon. Additional Founding Members will be forthcoming.

The alliance grew out of an ATIS Call to Action Promoting U.S. Leadership on the Path to 6G. Just like 5G and earlier generations have, 6G is expected to drive innovations in telecommunications infrastructure, systems, networks, and devices.

The Next G Alliance will initially focus on three strategic actions:

• Develop a 6G national roadmap to address the changing competitive landscape in order to position North America as the global leader in R&D, standardization, manufacturing, and adoption of Next G technologies.
• Align the North American technology industry on a core set of priorities that will steer leadership for 6G and beyond.
• Identify and define early steps and strategies to drive commercialization of Next G technologies across new markets and business sectors and promote widescale adoption.
