In Response to Coronavirus Pandemic, FCC Increases Rural Health Care Program Funding

The FCC has adopted an order mandating the full funding of all eligible Rural Health Care Program services for the current year. The move, part of the federal government’s reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be made possible by an increase in funding of $42.19 million.

Broadband Forum Continues Work Towards Cloud-Based Network Management With Latest Release 

The Broadband Forum has issued the latest update to its Open Broadband – Broadband Access Abstraction open-source project, OB-BAA Release 3.0. The standard aims to ease migration to interoperable cloud-based access networks.

5G Performance Report: Verizon's D.C. 5G Network is Fastest

The performance of 5G networks varies between carriers due to the spectrum choices that each made, according to a new 5G performance report from RootMetrics. RootMetrics conducted testing in Chicago, Dallas, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Washington, DC.

Report: PON OLT Market is Bright Spot For Slowing Broadband Access Market

The worldwide PON optical line terminal (OLT) market hit the $3 billion level last year, a 16% increase compared to 2018, according to Dell’Oro Group. The firm says this was “the lone bright spot” for access equipment sales as cable infrastructure and DSL suffered “significant” revenue declines.
