Examine. Acknowledge. Change
Examine. Acknowledge. Change. You will be hearing these words a lot over the remainder of 2017 and through 2018 when it comes to how we operate at Finley.
Finley’s leadership met in Minneapolis the last week of July to discuss upcoming initiatives and issues that Finley will be facing. Initiatives and issues that we need to examine, acknowledge and change.

Using Drones to Survey and Map Projects
As Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), known to most as drones, move from military applications and hobby flier circles into growing areas of professional use, they could become a critical tool for telecommunications and energy engineering work. Adopting this new technology could give Finley Engineering Company an edge on project cost and schedule, as drone cartography speeds surveying time dramatically, while providing highly accurate data.

Pope County Feasibility Study
Without access to high-speed broadband services and applications, businesses, jobs and residents leave. Housing values falter. Students lose access to educational opportunities. Healthcare suffers. For these reasons, Pope County, located in rural west central Minnesota, hired Finley Engineering along with CCG Consulting to conduct a thorough feasibility study which the two organizations along with the County used to further discussions with community members and local carriers who may bring the broadband projects to fruition in the future.

Slayton Project in the News
Slow or no broadband access puts rural communities at risk as economic development stalls, educational methods are limited, rural healthcare options are limited, and agriculture is negatively affected. Broadband service is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessary utility and Nobles County has now broken ground to bring that service to its residents. FinleyEngineering is proud to partner with Nobles Countyand Lismore Cooperative Telephone Company from the initial feasibility study all the way to designing and now managing the project. Congratulations Nobles County!

Finley Engineering has a great story to tell about our broadband expertise. As we see potential growth in markets including rural electric cooperatives (RECs) and municipalities, we’ve shifted our marketing language to a more benefits oriented style. In doing so, we created an ebook we are sharing with prospects: The Challenge: Building a Future-Ready, High-Speed Broadband Network

Safety Brief - Preventing Repetitive Motion Injuries
Computers are as common in the workplace as telephones. We use them for everything: creating letters and forms, writing reports, editing, electronic mail and surfing the Net. Computers require our hands and arms to be used more than ever. Repeating the same motion over and over again at high speeds with little rest, and applying force to muscles, joints, or tendons while in an awkward angle may be putting more stress on those body parts than is necessary and can increase the chance of developing repetitive motion injuries (RMIs).
